The Beloved Street Lives On: Sesame Street to Stream on Netflix

Sesame Street finds a new home on Netflix!

For many kids and parents, Sesame Street has always been their go-to show after school or when staying at home. Now, Sesame Street has found a new home where families can watch! Sesame Workshops announced on Monday, May 19, that they have partnered with Netflix following HBO Max’s decision to end its partnership with the longtime children’s show.

“We are excited to announce that all new Sesame Street episodes are coming to Netflix worldwide, along with library episodes. New episodes will also be released the same day on PBS Stations and @pbskids platforms in the US, preserving a 50+ year relationship,” the company posted on its social media accounts.

“The support of @netflix, @pbs, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serves as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder.”

Behind the Move: Why Sesame Street Needed a New Home

The move to Netflix comes after HBO Max chose not to renew its partnership with Sesame Street following the show’s 55th season. According to The New York Times, Sesame Workshop spent the following months exploring new streaming options to ensure the show could continue reaching young audiences.

Meanwhile, public broadcasting has also faced funding challenges, making it harder for shows like Sesame Street to rely solely on traditional platforms. Fortunately, the new deal ensures the program will remain available on PBS for non-streaming households, even as it begins its next chapter with Netflix.

In today’s crowded digital space, where shows like Bluey and CoComelon capture much of children’s screen time, the classic cartoon will have to find fresh ways to connect with families. But if there’s one thing this beloved series has proven, it’s that it knows how to evolve while staying true to its core: helping kids grow up smarter, stronger, and kinder.

Good News for Kids and Kids at Heart

While the media landscape continues to shift, Sesame Street remains a steady, joyful presence. Now, with Netflix bringing the beloved show to a global streaming audience, both kids and parents can rediscover the magic, no matter where they are.

Since its debut in 1969, Sesame Street has helped raise generations of children with its timeless message: to grow up smarter, stronger, and kinder. Its muppets aren’t just characters—they’re cultural icons, lovingly woven into the fabric of childhood. From Big Bird to Elmo, and from Rosita to Ji-Young and TJ, the show’s first Filipino muppet. Sesame Street remains a champion of diversity, inclusion, and empathy, in a time when it’s challenged by many.

In a time when kindness, understanding, and representation matter more than ever, Sesame Street is right where it belongs—right at home with families everywhere.
