A Transformation Towards a Neuro-Inclusive World for Autism Acceptance Month 2023

In celebration of Autism Acceptance Month, the Autism Society of the Philippines joins other groups in pushing for a neuro-inclusive world.

It’s Autism Acceptance Month! And on Sunday, April 2, Autism advocacy groups worldwide celebrated by lighting blue in various establishments.

At Araneta City, the Smart Araneta Coliseum turned blue. This is to symbolize their support for the continuation of autism awareness activities and as a sign of inclusivity.

Autism Acceptance Month Theme

This year, Autism Societies have adopted the theme of Transformation: Toward a Neuro-Inclusive World for All.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres’ gave a message on the contributions of people around the world diagnosed with the condition.

“On World Autism Awareness Day, we celebrate the contributions of persons with autism. And renew our resolve to advance their inherent rights,” Guterres said.

“Despite important progress, persons with autism continue to face social and environmental barriers to the full exercise of their rights and fundamental freedoms, in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

He added: “We must do better. By promoting inclusive education, equal employment opportunities, self-determination, and an environment where every person is respected.  And as we do so, we also recognize the role of families, caregivers, and support networks in the lives of persons with autism.”

Based on the World Health Organization (WHO) report, about 1 out of 100 children are diagnosed with autism. It’s unclear how one gets the condition but is often attributed to genetics and the environment.
