TRON: Ares Soon To Hit Cinemas This 2025!

Sci-fi classic TRON releases a new installment to the film series, TRON: Ares. Here’s what we know so far

If it’s not Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, or Star Trek, it’s TRON. While many Gen-X parents will remember the original TRON in 1982, most millennials will remember TRON: Legacy. As one of the first films debuted in iMAX at SM, we enjoyed its depiction of artificial intelligence and even video games. TRON’s probably the reason why most millennials became programmers and game developers! Now, TRON has a new film to join the series — TRON: Ares.

Coming out on October 10, 2025, here’s what we know about TRON: Ares.

What We Know About TRON: Ares

We’ve all experienced artificial intelligence to a certain degree and know that they can only do things when prompted and based on the prompt. However, TRON: Ares offers a different perspective: What happens when Artificial Intelligence (AI) goes beyond the digital space?

That’s the premise of TRON: Ares. How would artificial intelligence (AI) behave among humans? The program, named Ares (played by Jared Leto), would be sent out on a dangerous mission. As to what that mission is, the trailer doesn’t show what that mission entails. But what we do know is that it’ll still follow the old style of the movies.

But instead of the classic EDM pair Daft Punk, industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails will be taking over the movie’s musical score. While it may be their first time doing a film score as a band, they are no strangers to the genre. They’ve produced songs for video games that are similar to TRON’s genre, like our kids’ beloved Fortnite and a game some of the more sci-fi gamer parents are familiar with, the fast-paced Warframe.

The Next Step of Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

The TRON movies haven’t been too far from their predictions about technology and artificial intelligence (AI). The 1982 TRON movie tackled video games and how programs reflected the users or their developers. TRON: Legacy showcased the limitless possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI), especially when Sam Flynn finds his father, Kevin (played by Jeff Bridges), in The Grid. So, we’re all wondering now what TRON: Ares has in store. Will it foreshadow where artificial intelligence (AI) is heading? Or will it show families what happens when they feed artificial intelligence (AI) too much information?

Both parents and teachers have been warning students against overusing artificial intelligence. Yet, we can’t deny how it easily integrates into our lives. We have TVs connecting to the internet, search engines and social media algorithms predicting what we like, and even artificial intelligence producing art on prompt. Perhaps, when TRON: Ares comes out, we can talk to our kids about the proper uses of artificial intelligence (AI).
