What Parents Need To Know About The Roblox Schlep Controversy

Since our kids love playing Roblox, they’ll need to know what’s going on in their favorite game, especially when it involves a famous YouTuber.

Roblox may be our kids’ favorite game, but things may be taking a turn for the worse. 22-year-old- YouTuber Michael, known online as Schlep, possesses a large following. His mission: expose child predators lurking on Roblox. The drive behind his advocacy is deeply personal. Schlep reveals he was groomed as a child by a Roblox developer and reporting it once led to limited action by the platform. That trauma nearly ended in tragedy when he attempted suicide.

Why Schlep Insisted on The Hunt for Child Predators

According to an interview on Tubefilter, Schlep used decoy accounts to catch predators in the act—confronting them and forwarding evidence to law enforcement. Over time, his videos allegedly contributed to six arrests. And while the police have acted swiftly, Schlep says Roblox has done otherwise.

“We go to roblox.com/support, submit a moderation ticket, and then fill out the prompt with all the information regarding our arrest, and give you guys the same Google Drive that we give to the cops,” Schlep revealed. “And in a lot of instances, Roblox won’t even ban after we reach out to them regarding felony arrests.”

Roblox Responded with a Ban—and a Legal Threat

In early August 2025, Roblox permanently banned Schlep and issued a cease-and-desist letter. The company claimed his methods violated Terms of Service, citing:

  • Simulated child endangerment
  • Sharing or requesting personally identifiable information (PII)
  • Encouraging off-platform communication, which they say increases risk to users. In the case of Schlep, most of these took place on a popular gaming chatroom, Discord.

Unfortunately, this landed the company managing Roblox in hot water. Content creators demanded accountability and called the company’s move punitive. Hashtags such as #FreeSchlep and many others have even demanded the removal of the company’s CEO, David Baszucki. The petition has gained over 160,000 signatures according to Change.org’s X account.

Others have accused the company of prioritizing growth over safety.

Although the company had rolled out safety features, many parents and critics have declared that the updates had come too late.

How Can Parents Protect Their Kids on Roblox

What makes protecting the kids on Roblox so difficult for some parents is the lack of tech savvy. Some of us don’t have the time to learn the tech, making it harder for us to find ways to protect our kids.

But that’s really the first step. Navigating the digital space takes a lot more than just clicking buttons. Some images, no matter how innocent or “clean” they seem, can trigger warning bells. Most millennials had that experience during the days of Limewire and torrent downloading.

It may feel weird for a parent to play video games, especially when there are other things to do. But the truth is, learn Roblox and its features means coming up with more specific and tailored ways to protect them. We’ll develop better strategies that’ll protect our kids from online predators.

Or, if they really want to play games but we want safe ones, play offline ones. There are so many!
