Women Are Getting Ready for the Run of Their Lives!

Nicole dela Cruz talks to Modern Parenting about preparing for the October edition of Women’s Run PH.

Running has become one of the most in-demand sports in recent years thanks to the marathons held around the country. This October 1, women and kids will gather once again as organizers will hold the Women’s Run PH happening at UP Diliman.

Modern Parenting recently spoke with Nicole dela Cruz on how they have been preparing for the event.

What the run is all about

“The Women’s Run PH is actually created to celebrate and empower women through running,” Nicole explained. “And of course, this event is inclusive for everyone and is a support group also for all women. This is to celebrate and empower women. And our goal is to have an increasing distance. It’s a series of running events.”

Nicole shared that for the run, they will have a five-kilometer, noting that it’s friendly, especially for beginners, and an advanced five-kilometer for advanced runners.

She added that the run is a way of providing motivation, inspiration, and empowerment for ladies everywhere.

“I’ve activated a lot of campaigns for this, just so a lot of women will be encouraged to try it out,” Nicole shared. “Another goal of this event is to actually increase the women’s participation in this sport because the majority of the runners are male runners.”

She said that she has tapped a lot for running communities and that they were able to reach the goal to get as many participants as they can.

Women supporting women

Nicole happily shared that several prominent personalities from the sports community will be supporting the event. Some of those who are set to participate are athletes like Elma Muros Posadas and Jenny Guerrero.

As a mother herself, Nicole knows the challenges of balancing work and attending to her kids’ needs.

“It’s not easy being a mom, we wear a lot of hats,” Nicole said. “So I’ve been juggling so many things, making sure that the kids are able to do their homework, able to go to school at the same time, meet also with the people who are my sponsors for this event, meeting with key stakeholders like yung mga sa venue and everything else.”

“It’s more of management, but nangingibabaw yung determination that I really want to put up this event. And at the same time, it’s something that gives me a sense of fulfillment being able to do a lot of things, especially if I give a very impactful event not only for the women, but also my kids. Because we’re also offering this to kids.”

Nicole also mentioned that what makes the run unique is that it makes sure all women will feel important.

“We’re running alongside with a lot of empowered women around there. Aside from that, I also thought of the things that would make this event happy or memorable,” she explained. “So first is when the first 100 females who will cross the finish line will get flowers. I want it to be a carpeted finish line.”

“At the same time, you will see motivational markers around the route. Aside from that, there will be themes also. We have confetti blasts, there will be drum beaters, and madami pang may pa-zumba pa right after the event. And more than that, there will be activities that people will enjoy.”

Encouraging women to try running

Above all, Nicole hopes the marathon will encourage women to try running.

“This event is actually created to be inclusive and very supportive to all the women,” Nicole said. “So it doesn’t stop you if you are a beginner, advanced runner, or what. This is inclusive and open to everyone.”

“It’s more of growing together. That’s why yung vision ko dito is to start with just five kilometers and to see how many people are joining. Eventually, it will increase to five and to 10. And then you’ll see how many people we were able to help in this community grow either in distance or be their personal best in a small kilometer or in a shorter distance and then increase it again to 16 and then 21. So, para siyang journey for everyone.”
