5 Reminders On Mental Health At Work
For World Mental Health Day 2024, the spotlight is on the importance of proper health in the workforce
October 10 is World Mental Health Day, and this year, the issue of mental health is shined upon the workforce. The World Health Organization has been active in working with partners on the issue of mental health and the workforce.
The World Economic Forum reported that 2 billion working days are estimated to be lost every year because of depression and anxiety cases and the loss of 1 trillion dollars.
How does one protect their mental health at work? Here are five reminders when one feels tired and overwhelmed from work.
Step away from the laptop and phone for 15 minutes
One of the best tips is to get some rest from the screen of the laptop and the phone. Get up and do some walking. You can also talk to your colleagues or go around the office to breathe. A 15-minute break does wonders before finishing the tasks at work.
Get a vacation
Vacations for employees are important. A few days of break allows the mind to rest and a holistic recharge. It has been proven that when an employee returns, he/she is more energized and enthusiastic to finish work. They also produce a lot of good ideas during company meetings.
Have time with your friends
Humans are social people. We’ve been told many times to have a work-life balance (which doesn’t happen a lot, to be honest). If your friends ask for a coffee date, accept and give them at least a few hours of your time. Bonding with your friends is important to distress from the chaos your mind goes through.
Do a rest day by yourself
Contrary to what people believe, time alone is important. On a rest day, you can go to the mall, watch a movie, or go to the spa for some relaxation. Reading a book and listening to music can help your mind and soul recharge. Tune in to your favorite podcaster can also help you relax.
Get moving!
Get yourself moving. exercise not only helps the body but also the mind. Do some walking, dancing, or a quick gym workout so that you produce more endorphins, which actually makes you happy and better.
It’s normal to feel tired and overwhelmed at work!
Our minds can be our biggest enemies when exhausted. There is nothing wrong with putting yourself first because a happy employee produces better results when he/she is recharged from the chaos around them.
