Kung Fu Panda 4 Kicks in its First New Trailer!
The Kung Fu Panda series debuts a new trailer for its fourth installation!
The journey of how a bumbling panda transformed into an inspirational dragon warrior inspired kids everywhere that there was always a way for them to be what they wanted to be—even if they didn’t look or feel the part. And that journey continues as Dreamworks presents Kung Fu Panda 4, with Jack Black reprising his role once again as the lovable Po, the panda turned Dragon Warrior.
But this time, he’ll be fighting the unpredictable and powerful sorceress Chameleon—who in the trailer wields a weapon known as The Staff of Wisdom and can absorb the chi or energy of any person of her choice that she comes across.
A Test of Wisdom and Skill
Even during CinemaCon 2023, Jack Black describes Kung Fu Panda 4′s latest villain as someone with “totally scary and unfair abilities.”
In the trailer, those terrifying abilities show and fit her personality. As a Chameleon, she can be anything or anyone. She even takes on the powers and personality of the first movie’s villain: Shifu’s (voiced by Dustin Hoffman) former student, the snow leopard Tai Lung who was voiced by Ian McShane in the films, while Andre Sogliuzzo handled the character’s cameos in the series.
Giving the Chameleon her voice will be Viola Davis. The voice actress also starred in big franchise films like Suicide Squad as the cunning Amanda Waller and the latest Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ Dr. Volumnia Gaul.
Another big voice actor joining the cast is AWKWAFINA who worked on Dreamworks’ The Bad Guys as the techie Ms. Tarantula.
The trailer once again reveals a recurring theme that Kung Fu Panda has always tackled—that the martial arts is about mastering the self. Towards the end of the trailer, she appears to have taken some of Po’s energy because she transforms into him!
And as many say, fighting against oneself is one of the hardest battles to win.
When the Movie Will Debut
Considering that this is the first trailer, Dreamworks dropped the initial release date on March 8, 2024. But families can expect a much darker and more spiritual theme for Kung Fu Panda 4 although, we’re not entirely sure yet what the Chameleon’s relationship with Po would be.
But we’re also wondering if it will also follow or allude to the villains in the movie’s series. After all, as the Dragon Warrior, Po has made a lot of friends, but just as many enemies, too.
