Smart Condo Maintenance Tips for Young Parents
Here are some tips for young parents when maximizing or maintaining their condo spaces
Living in a condo brings a lot of perks—convenience, security, and access to great amenities. Unfortunately, cuts are not as big as they used to be. And for many working parents, keeping the space clean, safe, and organized can sometimes feel like a juggling act. Here are some practical tips to help make condo living easier for the whole family.

1. Focus on multi-purpose furniture
If we’re getting a sofa, then make sure it stores things too. Or, if we’re getting a coffee table, make sure it’s compact enough to store some books and other interesting knick-knacks. With less clutter on the floor, there’s less chance of us stumbling around.
2. Find sturdy decor
Even condo spaces deserve personality! When choosing decor, opt for items that aren’t easily knocked down and not so sharp. Especially if we have constant weather forecasts of typhoons and tornadoes in the form of our toddlers or bouncing kids.
What some parents do is they pot indoor plants in wide but textured pots. The plants keep the air breathable, while the pots make sure they don’t get knocked over. Plus, having a little green in the room adds some life and coziness to the urban space.
3. Have the aircons cleaned every 6 mos or so
Because condos get stuffy from the lack of ventilation, mold usually builds up in the air conditioners. Regardless of whether it’s a split-type, central, or window-type air conditioner, mold tends to build up in its condenser and hoses, which makes it leak. And when they do, it’ll eat away the wood or discolor the tiles!
Some aircons have their own service providers, but most brands usually source their repairs from one center.
4. Cover corners and the feet of tables, chairs, and beds
The most common spots for accidents are table corners when in the dining room, especially when the kids start running around. Although some parents have solved the problem by using a round table, some are just too small. What some parents do is they just sand the corners into something round the kids don’t scratch themselves.
As for the feet of tables and chairs, adding rubber stoppers or felt pads prevents them from scratching the floor.
Another common spot for accidents is the bed. Stubbing our toes on the bed feet is not great at all! Use the bottom half of a plastic bottle for an easy bed leg cover to cushion the blow.
5. Stay on Top of Repairs
Don’t ignore that leaky faucet or flickering light. Small issues can turn into costly repairs. Report them right away to building management to keep your home safe and stress-free.
Some buildings even allow the condo unit owners to use the maintenance team to take on some repair requests. It’s part of the association dues, too!
6. Declutter Regularly
Kids outgrow clothes, toys, and gear quickly. Set aside time every few months to donate or pass down items you no longer need. A clutter-free condo feels more spacious and calming for everyone. Some Facebook groups help families declutter!
7. Use twisties or velcro wraps for wires
With us relying so much on the internet, keeping the wires organized is a must. Some parents use those aluminum twisties to bind them. Others buy those velcro wraps from the Hardware or Japanese Daiso stores to keep the wires off the ground. It also prevents dust and dirt from getting tangled with them.

Condo maintenance is not as easy as it looks
When maintaining a condo, it’s also good to always check in with the building’s property manager. They usually have a list of contacts for maintenance if we need any heavy lifting.
Some may say it’s easy because it’s a smaller space, but it’s still one we live in. Especially when we have kids and we’re working from home, maintaining the condo as both a home and work space can be difficult. We don’t want it to lose the coziness, but we also don’t want it to be so relaxing that we’ll get too lazy to leave!
But the important part is that our condo, no matter how small, is still our home. And if we have kids, we want them to have a happy and stress-free one too!
