Despicable Me 4: Dads Should Watch it With Their Kids

Gru and the Minions are back on Despicable Me 4 and beyond a new enemy, Gru needs to work on his relationship with his son

In case you don’t know, Despicable Me 4 opened in Philippine cinemas on July 3 and Gru and his family are on a new adventure. This time, he’s on a mission as an AVL agent to arrest his rival Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and although he was successful, Maxime vowed to get back at him.

But more than facing Maxime, Gru also faces a tough challenge in connecting with his son, Gru Jr.

The challenge connecting to Gru Jr

In the film, it’s clear that Gru’s relationship with Lucy and his adopted girls – Margo, Edith, and Agnes are doing well. But it seems that everytime Gru tries to connect with his son Gru Jr, the baby doesn’t reciprocate his feelings.

When Maxime bolts out of prison, Gru and his family are forced to move out for their safety and assume new identities – the Cunninghams. Gru tries to do his duties as a dad despite the hilarious antics his son does.

Gru finds himself in a difficult position when his neighbor Perry Prescott’s daughter Poppy blackmails him to do a heist. He brings Gru Jr and some of the minions, which becomes a hilarious adventure.

When Maxime locates Gru’s whereabouts, he kidnaps Gru Jr, making Gru go after him. Gru Jr is transformed into a cockroach hybrid and as Gru tries to save him, Gru Jr remembers the time with his dad and helps him fight Maxime back. A connection soon develops between father and son.

Sometimes It Takes Effort to Connect

Parents find themselves sometimes having a difficult time connecting with their kids. In the case of Gru, we see him trying his best to reach out to Junior. While he initially had a hard time, Gru was able to bond with Junior after.

Dads are often seen as the strict one, the disciplinarian. But they also have a soft side and this is what the movie also tries to show amidst the laughing moments provided by the minions.

Despicable Me 4 is a must-watch by dads and their kids because more than the comedy moments, it shows that to connect with the child, one has to make an effort – even if it means it will take time.

And more than the father and child moment, the movie is also a must-watch for the minion’s antics. Trust us, you’ll leave the cinema grinning.
