Coffee & Café Crawl For Parents: Buwan ng Wika Edition

Looking for Filipino cafés for Buwan ng Wika? Here are some cafés parents can go to

If the world suddenly ran out of coffee, then homes would fall apart. We, Filipino parents, thrive on coffee; it gives us energy to be decent people without the processed sugar.

Since it’s Buwan ng Wika, maybe it’s time to venture inward. To explore the Philippine coffee scene more, rather than grabbing the typical after-work drink, or if we just want to indulge. Besides, the Philippines has so many flavors to offer! The fruity and nutty notes from the mountainous provinces up north to the more barley and chocolate-y flavored ones from the south, here are some Filipino cafés parents can enjoy for Buwan ng Wika 2025:

While it sports the usual minimalist café look, it was the Filipino-based drinks that caught our eyes. Enjoy the Silakbo Mocha either hot or cold—elevating the simple mocha coffee drink with the Filipino tsoko-chili concept. Or, for the lactose-intolerant and want something refreshing, the Calamansi Espresso—the Filipino take on the South American creation, the Mazagran (AKA Lemon Coffee).

Of course, if those seem a little “too adventurous,” then there’s the rich and creamy Ube Spanish Latté or the fragrant Pandan Latté.

Bo’s Coffee

For a long time, Bo’s Coffee has championed local beans. And while their creations are the usual, it’s the drip coffee we insist on trying. Especially with their new bistro at Greenhills Mall, diners get to try beans from different parts of the Philippines. From Bukidnon, the Mountain Province, and the like, all these are served either in small cups as pour-overs or French Press.

Tsokolateria

A café concept of Happy Ongpauco-Tiu, the pastry-café serves both savory and sweet dishes. Not only does it sport some very Filipino-looking decor, but their creations are also a tribute to Philippine cuisine. As the name says, they’re very focused on chocolate. But they do have a delicious Tsoko-Barako which works well with their pastries.

Auro Café

Especially the one in BGC and Alabang, Auro Café offers a cozy and very Filipino-like aesthetic with its tropical-themed furniture and designs. However, like Tsokolateria, they’re more known for their chocolate rather than their coffee. They style their Choc Au Lait similarly to the iced lattés we love drinking and even allow drinkers to add Espresso shots for a “dirty” version of the drink.

Scholarsip Café

Hidden within the streets of Barangay Addition Hills at the Fundacion Sanso Art Gallery, Scholarsip Café doesn’t just serve coffee but supports scholars too. When renowned artist Juvenal Sansó passed away, he wanted to make sure his art continued to make an impact. So besides displaying art, the café also has a museum store where they sell pieces decorated with works by Filipino artists.

While they don’t have special beans like artisan cafés, their coffee beans do come from Yardstick, and their pastries from Purple Yam.

BULAN Kitchen & Café

Located along Sct. Dr. Lazcano, Bulan Café (or translated as Moon Kitchen and Café) relaxes diners and parents with their moon-themed design. And since Filipinos are known to have a lot of legends involving the moon, it’s why this little Filipino café showed up on our radar for Buwan ng Wika.

Their coffee creations do have the Filipino touch. One is their creamy Ube Latté and their signature Over The Moon Latté, which they use coconut milk for!

And for the night owls and furparents, you’re in luck! This place is open until midnight and allows pets— provided they have a leash and a diaper on.

The Philippines has so much coffee to offer!

While Buwan ng Wika celebrates the spoken, written, and reading language, coffee lovers celebrate the month with the love language of gifting family and friends a coffee date.

While we’ll still love our usual haunts, Buwan ng Wika can be the month that challenges us to explore the local coffee market. If not during the Manila Coffee Festival, then maybe just a random café one weekend. A lot of the baristas in those cafés take pride in their brewing skills and are more than happy to share what they know about coffee.

Besides, nothing’s better than having an enlightening and connecting conversation over a cup of coffee and cozy Filipino-themed ambiance.
