Isabel Oli Constantly Learns Being A Mom
Isabel Oli tells Modern Parenting how she and John Prats have been raising their three kids and constantly learning as a mom
Isabel Oli has taken time off to be a mom to her and John Prats’ kids. But these days, the actress and model has made her presence felt again in showbiz, with TV and social media promotions.
Modern Parenting recently sat down with Isabel as she and John appeared for the brand’s Kitchen special about returning to taping, her kids doing showbiz work, and mindfulness parenting.
Showbiz return
Isabel said she is back full-time in acting and has been taping a show. She explained she and John discussed that when their youngest is old enough, she can accept more showbiz work.
“It’s a mainstay role. Tinatry namin kasi baka hindi pa ako handa. Hinahanap ko lang, namimiss ko na,” she said of of going back full time to actions.
“Sabi ni John, sige balik ka na. Sayang naman. So tinatry namin. At first, I was really having a hard time,” she said. “Ngayon, medyo nakapag-adjust na ako.”
Isabel’s recent appearance included a special role in Lilet Matias: Attorney at Law, where she played the role of a younger Mer (played by Maricel Laxa).
On Mindfulness Parenting and Continuous Learning
With three kids and different personalities, it’s only normal that Isabel parents them differently. Of course, there are days that it can be stressful and this is where she and John practice the proper discipline among Feather, Freedom, and Forest.
“When it comes to discipline, iba-iba. May isa na you just got to talk, yung isa naman you need to be firm,” referring to her two girls. “So magkaiba talaga sila and you cannot compare kasi. They’ll compare, and then lalabas is an envy or competition between siblings.”
As for their son, Isabel happily shared he’s the calm one. “Siya yung pinaka understanding and to think you would hear stories of raising boys na sila yung malikot. Siya hindi.“
Being a mom is a never-ending journey and Isabel continues to learn as her kids grow up.
“Sabi ko nga, non-stop yung learning when you’re a mom. Akala ko na when you’re a mom, you’re a parent na ah, kayang-kaya natin ito,” she said.
“Pero hindi, it’s non-stop. You got to ride kung anong phase niya ngayon. Kasi iba sa isa-isa. So you just have to adjust. And wala nakapagsabi sa akin na it’s hard!“
She and John would even talk about how they managed to do it but it’s all “about learning.”
Showbiz in their kids’ blood
Like other kids of showbiz couples, Feather, Freedom, and Forest have been offered projects and commercials. So what is her tip for parents when it comes to their kids wanting to try showbiz but not sacrifice their studies?
“Kung ano gusto ng kids, just go with it,” she said. “S’yempre kailangan mo i-guide and kailangan mo din i-gauge kung saan nag-wowork.”
“May mga ibang child star like sina John na kinaya naman. Lalo ngayon na may mga modules or homeschool so mas kayang-kaya.”
Being a parent is never an easy job and Isabel knows it. But just like any parent out there, some things will and will not work. It’s all about continuously learning and growing.
