The Moms and Titas Will Feel Nostalgic and Kilig Again Thanks to F4 Thailand
The Thai adaptation based on the Japanese manga Boys Over Flowers stars Bright Vachirawit and Metawin Opas-iamkajorn
The Moms and Titas who once watched Meteor Garden in 2001 and read the Japanese manga Boys Over Flowers will definitely feel nostalgic watching the Thai adaptation F4 Thailand. The story is familiar – the girl gets bullied by the leader of the group, stands up to him, earns his respect, and eventually falls in love with her. But there are challenges they have to go through, including social status and people around them.
The Thai version which stars Vachirawit “Bright” Chivaaree and Metawin “Win” Opas-iamkajorn of 2gether fame initially had some doubts from fans because of the recent 2018 Chinese version’s success but was later received well by those who watched the past editions. The show has also catapulted its other cast members– Tontawan Tantivejakul, Jirawat “Dew” Sutivanichsak, and Hirunkit “Nani” Changkham as superstars to watch out for.
The Modern Take
Gorya (Tontawan Tantivejakul) enrolls in one of the most prestigious schools and encounters the F4 members. There’s Thyme (Bright), the leader of the group and heir of Parama Group, Ren (Dew) the quiet one and son of the owners of the number 1 health center in Thailand, Kavin (Win), the playboy whose family is in politics and exports, and MJ (Hirunkit), the bad-boy looking member whose family is involved in the entertainment industry.
Initially annoyed with the four, Gorya stands up to their bullying and the boys are in awe of her courage. Thyme finds himself falling in love with her but Gorya has feelings for Ren, who on the other hand is in love with his childhood friend Mira.
Although GMMTV has only shown three episodes of F4 Thailand as of writing (ABS-CBN has acquired the airing rights and can be watched in Filipino via iWantTFC and online), there are already some memorable moments fans have been talking about. Here are eight memorable scenes so far that everyone loves from F4 Thailand.
Warning: Spoilers ahead
Gorya stands up to Thyme
Gorya’s parents gave her a pair of shoes as a gift and she wore them in school. Students then taunted her and kicked her shoe as she chased after them. Outside the stadium, she continues to get harassed with Thyme and the other members watching. Thyme bullies her, cutting her shoe.
Having had enough of Thyme’s arrogance, Gorya gives him a taste of his own medicine by kicking him in the stomach, signaling the start of their rocky relationship.
Ren rescues Gorya
Gorya meets Ren for the first time and gets rescued after she was chased by students after getting the red tag.
Ren almost kissed Gorya
Gorya approaches Ren who was looking at Mira’s billboard. She then shares that she is a big fan of Mira. Ren gets closer to her face and she thought he would kiss her.
The accidental kiss
Mira helps Gorya change into a different outfit after she was bullied by some girls at the party. Her new look would make Ren compliment her smile. Feeling annoyed (or jealous), Thyme confronts Ren leading both him and Gorya to fall and kiss by mistake.
Ren kisses Gorya on the forehead and follows Mira to Paris
Ren summons enough courage to follow Mira to Paris. At the airport, Gorya initially scolds him for being late after Mira left. He then shows her his ticket and thanked her for pushing him to face his fears. As his gratitude, he kisses her on the forehead with the boys looking at the scene. Thyme also patches things up with Ren.
The bus scene and Thyme’s sister
In one of the funniest scenes of episode three, Thyme tries to get close to Gorya by buying the bus for them to get some alone time. She gets annoyed by his action and starts fighting with him inside the bus. A car cuts the bus they are riding and Gorya runs away from him. Thyme chases Gorya and finds himself kicked by his sister Tia.
Dating advice from Tia
Seeing her brother’s affection towards Gorya, Tia encourages Thyme to pursue her and gave some tips including asking Gorya out on a date. Thyme does ask Gorya out – via the TV screen in school.
Waiting in the rain
Gorya is hesitant and ignores Thyme’s message and goes out with her friend as he waits for her to come. She later finds him still waiting for her in the place he mentioned, soaked in the rain.
Worth watching
For the moms and the titas who followed all versions of the show, F4 Thailand is definitely something worth watching. It’s nostalgic, you laugh, and if you’re a BrightWin fan, you’ll find yourself cheering on their respective characters in the series. It’s different seeing them paired with others but the kilig is surely there.
