10 Parenting Tips We Picked Up From Nico Bolzico’s Instagram
Nico Bolzico’s Instagram account is probably one of the most entertaining accounts thanks to his Bullied Husbands Club. It is also a good place to pick up parenting tips.
Nico Bolzico wears a lot of hats these days. He’s a businessman (Hello, Bolzico Beef and Chingolo!). He’s Solenn Heussaff’s husband. And he’s a member of the Bullied Husbands Club. Thanks to the birth of Thylane Katana, Nico counts “Papa” as one of the many hats he has worn since January 1, 2020.
He’s also an Instagram favorite with 1.6 million followers and counting. Thousands of people have been entertained by his Bullied Husbands Club posts, which are basically hilarious but insightful posts on how to be a good husband.
The birth of Thylane, who is affectionately called Tili by her parents, has shown fans and followers alike a new side of Nico. He might be a first-time dad but his Instagram posts about fatherhood have already shared a wealth of parenting tips. Here are 10 of them:
1. Make promises to your children and keep them
For his baby girl’s first birthday, Nico dedicated a heartwarming Instagram post to his daughter, which listed down his 12 promises.
While his “I will try not to reject every suitor you bring home” promise probably earned a lot of giggles from followers, this and the 11 other promises Nico listed can each serve as a parenting tip for every parent out there.
Some of the promises that Nico swears he’ll keep forever include “I will respect and love your mum,” “I will protect you when you need to be protected,” and “I will be there in all your big moments. You are the one who decides what a big moment is.”
While it is often said that promises are meant to be broken, don’t let your child get his or her first taste of that horrible truth in life from you. When you make a promise to your child (or to anyone at all), keep it.
2. Teach your child to love animals
Some parents worry about having animals, even pets, around their babies. If baby Tili is any indication, babies and pets actually can get along very well with a lot of help from the parents.
Way before they had a baby, Nico and Solenn have already been known for being proud parents to their pets Pochola, El Gato, Potato, and Pechuga. The apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree and you can see in many posts on Nico’s Instagram that Tili adores her pets. It’s safe to say they adore her back.
Nico also makes it a point to help Tili safely interact with other animals. During their stay at The Farm at San Benito last year, Nico is seen in an Instagram video helping his daughter chase after a duck they nicknamed El Pato.
3. Tossing your baby in mid-air makes for great photos, but make sure you can catch
If you browse through Nico Bolzico’s Instagram, you’ll probably see a great photo or two of him tossing Tili in mid-air while at the beach. In most (if not all) of these posts. They’re undoubtedly great shots, but if you’re going to try to attempt this yourself, make sure you can catch your baby before the poor child falls to the ground or into the water.
If you’re not confident in your baby-catching skills, don’t attempt to even toss the child in mid-air. As Nico says himself in one of his Instagram posts, “Advice: only do these kinds of pictures if you are 100% sure it is safe and the one week in the dog house is worth the memory!”
4. Have morning rituals with your children
Life can get super crazy and super busy, especially if you’re a working parent. But as they say, time flies by so fast these days that it’s important to take time to slow down and make time for your children.
Having morning rituals with your kids builds good, healthy habits while spending time as a family simultaneously. You can opt to exercise with your kids before you start your day, make a delicious breakfast together, or even dance, like what Nico and Tili did in one of his Instagram posts.
5. If you take a photo (or a video), it will last longer
Speaking of time flying by so fast, many parents often feel like all they did was blink and their children are all grown up. With how hectic and time-consuming work and other responsibilities can be, it can be pretty hard to just live in the moment and enjoy each time spent with the family.
It probably goes without saying but an important parenting tip that any parent should hear and know is to document memories. While memories will always be the souvenirs of your mind and heart, it definitely helps to capture moments of your children in photos and videos so that you can go back to them anytime you want.
It also doesn’t always have to be during important occasions like birthdays, graduations, and parties. It can be as simple as you and your child/children enjoying the beauty of a sunset.
6. Make sure your kids spend time with their grandparents
It’s always heartwarming to see anyone spending time with their grandparents. Nico’s followers on Instagram got to witness as baby Tili met his parents for the first time.
Grandparents are a great support system to have when you’re raising children. They sure have an abundance of love, affection, and even gifts to give their grandkids. While letting your kids spend time regularly with their lolos and lolas might be easier said than done, especially when they live far away, it’s totally worth the effort to try when you can.
Not only will it brighten up your kids’ day, but it will also brighten up your parents’ day too.
7. Teach your kids to love books
Reading opens up a wealth of knowledge, worlds, and ideas for anyone, whether adult or child. It also encourages creativity among other things. People who love to read tend to be good writers as well. That’s a pretty useful life skill to have if you ask.
Expose your children to books at a young age and let them explore different genres and authors. There is a book out there for every age group and interest so you certainly won’t have a hard time finding one for your children.
If your kids are too young to read on their own, take the time to read books to them and help them pronounce and read words in each book.
8. Ask for help when parenting gets too much
In one of his Father’s Day posts this year, Nico Bolzico mentioned how it literally takes a village to raise a child and it’s not only the sole effort of the parents.
Parenting can be really hard, overwhelming, exhausting, and sometimes irritating. As much as you’d wish for every day to be a good day, it simply can’t be the case all the time. When you’re having a hard time, in need of help, or feeling pretty overwhelmed, ask for help. Your and your spouse’s families and friends will surely be happy to step in and offer a helping hand when you need it most.
9. Teach your kids how to do chores
At some point in your life, you probably hated doing chores, but you know very well that they have to get done. Not only did doing chores keep your room and your house clean, but it probably also saved you from a lengthy sermon from the parents.
Chores teach children a lot about responsibility, being organized and tidy, and many other things. It’s best to start them young too even if they play more than they help clean at times.
10. When you’re gone for a long time, make sure to make up for lost time
Early this year, Nico went home to Argentina to see his family after a year and a half of not seeing them. As good as it was that he was finally going to see his family once more, it also meant that he had to leave Solenn and baby Tili behind.
There are times when you have to leave your kids behind. It can be for a work trip, a trip to see family who lives in another province or country or even a self-care trip. Whatever your reason is for being gone for some time, never ever forget to express to your children that you miss them, love them and that you think of them all the time.
And when you do come home, make sure to tell them all that still and make up for lost time as well.
