The Women Who Serve ‘Moms’ and ‘Sisters’ to Reigning Beauty Queens
These women serve as national directors and presidents of their organizations but they also guide the beauty queens during their reign
The life of a beauty queen can be exciting and adventurous but they also need the guidance and support of the people behind them. National and international pageants today have women serving as chairpersons, national directors, and presidents of the competition. They are not just the leaders but they also serve as guides and parents to our titleholders.
Stella Marquez Araneta, Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc
Stella Araneta was the first Miss International, representing Colombia. Years after turning her crown, she fell in love with Jorge Araneta and has since made the Philippines her home.
After her father-in-law established Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc, Stella has since served as its chairperson, sending Filipinas abroad to represent in competitions such as Miss International, Miss Grand International, Miss Globe, and Miss Intercontinental. Bb. Pilipinas has also previously held the franchise for Miss Universe and Miss World.
Every batch of candidates has considered Stella like a second mom. Under her care, the queens are not just treated like royalty but also protected with female security accompanying them to events. No wonder the pageant’s reputation has always been regarded as an example in the industry.
Lorraine Schuck and Peachy Veneracion, Miss Philippines Earth and Miss Earth
Lorraine Schuck and Veneracion are former beauty queens having served as Mutya ng Pilipinas titleholders during their time. Together with Ramon Monzon, they established Carousel Productions and previously ran the Miss Asia Pacific International competition in Manila.
In 2001, Carousel Productions started Miss Philippines Earth and Miss Earth. Lorraine has been serving as Carousel Productions’ Executive Vice President while Peachy has been the Vice President and Project Director of the pageant. Both have also served as second moms to the titleholders under the Miss Earth brand.
Cory Quirino, Mutya ng Pilipinas
Cory has been an advocate of the wellness industry for many years and has hosted TV shows, radio programs, and written articles about it. In 2011, the Miss World organization awarded her the right to hold the franchise. Under her leadership in Miss World Philippines, the country got its first crown in 2013 thanks to Megan Young.
In 2017, she announced that she was leaving Miss World Philippines to pursue other projects. In 2019, she made a return to the industry as president of Mutya ng Pilipinas and has been heading the search for the #HometownGirl.
Shamcey Supsup, Miss Universe Philippines
Shamcey has accomplished a lot since winning Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up. A mother of two, Shamcey runs her own architect firm, manages businesses alongside her husband Lloyd Lee, and is also the national director of the Miss Universe Philippines Organizations.
Eva Patalinjug, Hiyas ng Pilipinas
Like Shamcey, Eva juggles businesses, law studies, and raising her son Frederick with partner Francis Lim. Last November, Eva took on the job as national director of Hiyas ng Pilipinas, the first national pageant based in Cebu.
Since establishing Hiyas, Eva not only serves as the leader of the group but also as a sister to the candidates.
Beauty Queens share the Mother and sisterly love
These women have seen the glitz and glamour of pageantry and knew well the challenges that come with it. They can be firm at times but it’s all out of love, concern, and their own welfare.
