Linkin Park’s Latest Song “Lost” Was a Tribute to the Late Chester Bennington
The late Chester Bennington’s memory lives on as Linkin Park launched one of his unreleased songs, Lost.
Linkin Park lost a valuable singer in Chester Bennington on July 20, 2017. He was also a beloved father to six children. His heartbreaking past served as his muse for many of the songs Linkin Park made, speaking volumes to the negative feelings that many of us parents buried to not rock the boat. But Fader’s interview with Mike Shinoda revealed that there was a “fully formed” song they hadn’t released with Chester because it was “shelved in favor of Numb.” This song was called Lost.
Linkin Park’s Lost: In Memory Of A Rocker Who Was Breaking the Cycle
The song speaks about how the mind deals with pain. We always try to keep the pain away from people (most especially our family and children) but, not because we don’t want to talk about it. We fear that the pain we have will hurt those we love. Many of Linkin Park’s songs with Chester Bennington echoed this same sentiment. Lost‘s chorus reflects how many of us try to deal with pain:
I'm lost in these memories Living behind my own illusion Lost all my dignity Living inside my own confusion
The song also verbalizes what we often think about pain and down moments in life: “I try to keep this pain inside but I will never be alright.” The lack of closure eventually develops into trauma, leading us to hurt people even if we never wanted to.
The song is currently available on Spotify and YouTube as part of Linkin Park’s Meteora 20th Edition.
He was the voice of the many people who are still trying to heal
Healing or breaking the cycle isn’t easy. Chester battled with his demons but still wrote these songs and made them the voice of those trying to make sense of their pain. Sometimes, the stress and the pain can be so loud that any attempt to heal just fades into the background. Linkin Park’s Lost offers that cathartic release to not just the LPians but also to the many families who are still healing from the many stresses that hurt them.
It has almost been six years since his death but Chester’s memory lives in the many who are still healing, coping, and trying to make themselves better.
