Sixto Dantes’ Win Proves Young Kids Can Do Well in Martial Arts

Sixto Dantes’ gold medal in Taekwondo proves that kids can do well in martial arts!

Most parents think that martial arts are meant for older kids since there’s a need for control, moral dilemma, and more. But Sixto Dantes proves that kids can do well in martial arts even as young as four years old. Celebrity mom Marian Rivera recently posted pictures of her son’s gold medal finish in the Wood Breaking portion of the Taekwondo tournament, also remarking that he was “the youngest competitor and showing much promise already.”

“Mama is always proud of you, Sixto!” Marian Rivera happily declares.

A Double Win for Sixto

Not only did Sixto win his gold medal, but he also celebrated his 4th birthday, making him four years old when he won in Wood Breaking in Taekwondo.

But Sixto taking Taekwondo at his age does help him manage his energy if he ever needs it. It’s around 2 to 4 years old that kids seem to have boundless amounts of energy. They’re bouncing off the ceiling, running around, and trying all sorts of things. And it can be frustrating for both parents and kids to have no place to release that energy. Martial Arts teaches children control, making them more mindful of where their energy and strength goes. It’s not always about unleashing all your energy in one strike. It’s also about knowing where to release all that energy.

Especially when kids have too much energy to spare, it can make them irritable and harder to discipline because their minds are running all over the place. Martial Arts teach mental focus because it means being aware of where one’s limbs are flying.

Congratulations on the gold medal win, Sixto!

Breaking wood is no joke especially when trying to find the weak point of the wooden board. Unlike adults, kids may have it slightly easier because they’re not thinking about other things. But they still need to learn how to focus that energy and where to direct their attention. And that’s what Sixto Dantes learned in martial arts: he learned how to focus both his energy and attention which allowed him to break that wooden board in half. Congratulations on the gold, Sixto!
