First Trailer of Wicked Gives Us A Look At Elphaba and Glinda’s Friendship

The much-awaited movie adaptation of Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as they take on the roles of witches before they become who they are in The Wizard of Oz.

If you were kids who grew up watching and reading versions of The Wizard of Oz, then you’re probably wondering why Elphaba and Glinda have always been at odds with each other. Now for the first time since its debut on Broadway, the movie adaptation of Wicked dropped its first trailer. The film stars Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.

In the trailer, we see the first meeting between Elphaba and Glinda as students at Shiz University as they struck a friendship. Along the way, they meet the Wizard of Oz who will test their friendship, leading them to their respective destinies.

The movie also stars Oscar winner, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, and Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.

The long wait is over

While there’s no specific date yet for the Wicked movie’s release, the end of the trailer shows a possible Thanksgiving date for its showing. Jon Chu, known for films such as Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights, will be directing the film.

According to the studio’s announcements, the second part of the film will come out on November 26, 2025.

Wicked is based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire which has been shown on Broadway. One of the more popular versions of it is the Broadway version starred Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda back in 2003. It has since been staged in many countries such as the UK, Brazil, Australia, and the Philippines.
