Sad News for Mom and Kid Armies: BTS to Enlist in Mandatory Military Service

Big Hit Music confirmed that the boys will fulfill and serve the army starting with Jin after his activities this October.

It looks like Mom and Kid Armies will have to wait for BTS for a little while. On Monday, October 17, BIG HIT Music confirmed that BTS will be enlisting in the Korean military service once their individual activities wrap up.

Under South Korean law, all males must enlist and serve in the military for a minimum of two years.

“BIG HIT Music is proud to announce that the members of BTS are currently moving plans with to fulfill their military service,” the company said in a statement. “After the phenomenal concert to support Busan’s bid for the World Expo 2030, and as each individual embarks on solo endeavors, it’s the perfect time. And the members of BTS are honored to serve.”

According to BIG HIT, Jin will be the first to initiate the process once he wraps up his individual activities.

“Jin will then follow the enlistment procedure of the Korean government. Other members of the group plan to carry out their military service based on their own individual plans,” Big Hit said.

The group is expected to reconvene sometime in 2025.

Military service and break

Early this year, the group announced that they were going to take a break after promoting their anthology album Proof.

Since debuting in 2013, BTS has been on a roll. Aside from performing in concerts around the world and attending music events, the group has become ambassadors for South Korea on numerous occasions.

They have also attended events at the United Nations, speaking up on issues such as bullying and mental health.
